Dr. Torres has been the senior pastor of Goodwill Church since 1998. For ten years prior he served Goodwill as choir director, minister of music, and ruling elder. He has a BA in music composition from SUNY Empire State College, an MDiv from Alliance Theological Seminary, and a DMin from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary via the Arrow Leadership Program. He is a Chaplain (Captain) in the US Air Force / US Air National Guard, an adjunct professor of preaching at Alliance Theological Seminary, and a Global Leadership Associate. (Global Leadership is a leadership training ministry for under-resourced countries.)

In the eight years he has pastored Goodwill, the church has grown from about 100 to about 850 in weekly attendance with more than 1200 people calling Goodwill their home church. He and his wife Shannon have been married since 1988. He met her at Goodwill! They have a beautiful baby daughter, Kelsie Mae, and 2 spoiled, poorly behaved cats. John likes classical music, running (short distances slowly) every day, reading obscure books on philosophy and theology, and drinking strong, overpriced coffee. Shannon likes traveling, shopping, eating out, and dreaming of ways to redecorate the house.
